Chabad of the Lower East Side
Building a warm, welcoming Jewish community in the heart of Manhattan since 2005.
Founded by Rabbi Yisrael and Chani Stone, Chabad of the Lower East Side is a hub for Jewish education, spiritual growth, and community connection. We serve Jews of all backgrounds: students, families, professionals, and lifelong learners. With authentic Chabad warmth and the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, we create meaningful connections.
Rabbi Yisrael Stone
Born and raised in Flatbush, Rabbi Stone was educated in the Lubavitcher Yeshiva and spent his formative years near 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, where he witnessed the Lubavitcher Rebbe's teachings firsthand. That sacred environment shaped his calling: to reach out to every Jew and invite them into Jewish life.
During rabbinical school, Rabbi Stone volunteered globally with the Rebbe's Mitzvah Corps, touching lives across continents. In 2001, he married Chani, and in 2005, the couple settled on the Lower East Side as permanent emissaries, committed to building a vibrant Jewish community in Manhattan.
Rabbi Stone is known throughout the Jewish world for his uncanny ability to spot a Jew on the street and invite them to perform a mitzvah, whether putting on Tefillin, lighting Shabbat candles, or simply learning together. For him, this is not theory; it's the daily reality that drives his work. As those who know him will attest, he is a man of action, guided by the Rebbe's teaching that each mitzvah brings us closer to Moshiach and a redeemed world.
Torah education for children and adults alike is Rabbi Stone's life work. He doesn't just think about it; he does something about it, every single day.

Alive, Thriving, Rooted in Torah
The Lower East Side carries the weight of history. For generations, these streets have been home to vibrant Jewish life, culture, and tradition. But we don't live in that history. We live in this moment, in a community that is alive, thriving, and rooted in Torah.
Our mission is to show that the Lower East Side isn't some Jewish tale of the past. It's a place alive with Jewish energy, streets filled with Jews, connected to their heritage and each other. We feel honored to serve a community so rich in history and so full of present-day possibility.
About Chabad Lubavitch
Motivated by his profound love for every Jew and spurred by boundless optimism and self-sacrifice, the Lubavitcher Rebbe set into motion a dazzling array of programs, services, and institutions to serve the Jewish people. Today, over 6,000 emissary families direct more than 3,500 institutions worldwide dedicated to the welfare of the Jewish people.
Chabad Lubavitch strongly upholds the belief that every Jew, indeed every human being, has a unique role to play in the greater scheme of things and is an integral part of the tapestry of God's creation. This is the model we are part of, rooted here on the Lower East Side.
